CatPic is currently a local image and video manager focused on macOS. Saved screenshots, recordings, and imported files stay on your device. This version has no accounts or cloud sync and does not upload these media files to a CatPic server.
1. Scope
This policy covers the CatPic macOS app and its software update feature. External websites or services you open from the app have their own privacy policies.
2. Data Handled
| Category | Data | Purpose |
| Screenshots and recordings | Screen content you choose to capture and save | Create media files in the local library; unsaved screenshots are not added |
| Imported media | Images and videos you drag from Finder or select with a file picker | Copy to the app support directory and display in the library; source files remain |
| Library metadata | Names, types, sizes, creation times, folders, favorites, tags, and notes | Local organization, search, filtering, and display |
| Preferences | Theme color and screenshot/recording shortcuts | Keep your settings on this device |
This version does not offer account registration or advertising tracking. Usage statistics are enabled by default and sent through CraftAnalytics. They include feature usage, operation duration and results, app version, platform and distribution channel, with anonymous and session identifiers. On Mac, records use the same device hash as license activation, derived from the product scope and system device identifier using SHA-256. The raw system identifier is not sent. The SDK also retains random anonymous and session identifiers; other platforms currently use random anonymous identifiers. They exclude media content, file names or paths, recognized or watermark text, drawing coordinates, activation codes and payment credentials. You can disable Send usage statistics in Preferences. Content you choose to share or copy to another app is handled by the destination you select.
3. Local Storage, Retention, and Deletion
Media and its SQLite index are stored in the macOS app support directory for the current app identity. Debug and release builds use separate directories. Content remains until you delete it in CatPic, clear the app data, or remove it through system file management. Deleting media removes its library file and exclusive thumbnail, but does not affect the original file imported from Finder. Deleting a folder only removes its classification, not its media.
During migration from older library formats, the app may keep local backup files. You can manage these with your system file tools. Uninstalling the app may not remove its app support directory automatically; check that directory if you want to remove all local data.
4. System Permissions
Screenshots and recordings require macOS screen and system audio recording permission. CatPic uses this permission to process selected screen content when you start a capture or recording. While recording, the app displays its status and duration. Files are imported only after you drag them in or select them with the system picker. You can manage screen recording permission in macOS System Settings under Privacy & Security. Revoking it may disable capture and recording, while the local library remains available.
5. Network Requests and Third Parties
Usage statistics are sent over HTTPS to the CraftAnalytics service configured by CatPic to understand feature usage and processing results and improve the product. Pending records are stored in the app private directory, retried in batches and removed from the local queue after server acknowledgment. Disabling statistics stops collection and clears pending local records; it does not withdraw records already delivered to the server. Contact us below about handling server records.
The Mac App Store version receives updates through the App Store and does not request an external update feed in the app. The directly distributed version checks for updates in the background on startup and at daily intervals while the app remains running. You can also choose Check for Updates. These checks request the update feed. If you proceed with an update, the macOS updater downloads the app package from its distribution address. The update host may process IP addresses and request times in ordinary server logs. CatPic does not attach your images, videos, tags, or notes to update requests.
If you contact us by email, the email provider handles the message you choose to send under its own policy. Please avoid sending unnecessary sensitive screenshots, recordings, or personal data.
6. Your Choices

7. Policy Changes
We will update this page and its effective date if features or data handling change. Account or cloud storage features, if introduced later, will be described before launch.
